Fire Damages $100,000 + at Lippert Components Plant

GOSHEN -- Firefighters worked all night at the site of a blaze at Lippert Components south of the city.

Dispatchers got the call at 11:12 p.m. Friday to the Lippert plant at 65781 Sourwood Drive.

Firefighters got it under control at 12:35 a.m., according to dispatchers.

Firefighters from Elkhart Township, the city of Goshen, Clinton Township and Benton Township all helped fight the fire.

Elkhart Township crews were the last to leave, clearing out at 9:30 this morning.

Lippert manufactures RV and manufactured housing components.

Doug Gadson with the Elkhart Township Fire Department said the fire wasn't intentional.

"I'm sure it was accidental in nature, but as to the exact cause, I can't say," he said.

The fire started in the powder coat painting area, which takes up about half the building, Gadson said.

"It was contained to that area," he said.

Nobody was hurt, but firefighters had to be careful of ice forming because of the sub-freezing temperatures, Gadson said.
